About Me
Melissa Varnes, MSN, RN, CPNP-PC, CLNC

I am a highly committed healthcare professional who has built an impressive academic foundation, holding both a Master of Science in Nursing, with a specialization in pediatrics, and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, both obtained from Columbia University School of Nursing. I hold an RN license and am a Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner. In addition to my nursing degrees, I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Behavioral Neuroscience from Lehigh University. I am also a Certified Legal Nurse Consultant (CLNC), reflecting my interest in the intersection of law and medicine.
With over 12 years of experience as a Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner, I have had the privilege of caring for patients ranging from birth to early adulthood. I enjoy educating my patients and their families about my patients' dynamically changing health and development. Working with children, teens, and early adults for over a decade has made me an expert in solving unique problems and formulating care plans that are specific to my patients and their, sometimes rapidly, changing needs.

Originally from New York, I took a huge leap of faith and made the move to Raleigh, North Carolina in 2015. I soon met my husband and together we are raising our two beautiful children, a son and a daughter. While I am passionate about my work in pediatric healthcare and a deeply strong advocate for my patients, the arrival of my son in 2020 during the pandemic made me realize the importance of spending more quality time with my family. As a result, I am now focused on finding a balance between my professional and personal life. Legal nurse consulting enables me to combine my nursing education, my long-standing interest in law, my adept problem-solving skills, and my strong desire for the advocacy of others in ways I have always imagined.

When I'm not working, I enjoy spending time with my family. We love playing games, doing puzzles, going to Disney World, and watching movies/TV as a family. I enjoy playing golf (a successful effort from my dad) and I am excited that my son is taking golf lessons (also a successful effort from my dad). My son's natural swing (just observed and pleasantly surprised) is going to make him a great batter in T-ball this season and I cannot wait to share this experience with him. My husband and I are eager to see what adventures our daughter is going to take us on when she gets older. I love the life my husband and I have created down here, but there's still a few things I miss from back home: my family, NY pizza and bagels, the Yankees, fall in the Hudson Valley, Broadway shows, NYC at Christmastime, diners, and the "hustle and bustle" of northerners. A few things I do not miss: the snow, shoveling the snow, and driving in the snow.
